Clinton Township’s first settlement was created in 1782 but failed and was closed 4 years later. In 1818, The area become recognized as Huron Township because people called the river that ran through the township the Huron River, despite the existence of the Huron River we know today south of Detroit. To eliminate confusion, the township and river were renamed to “Clinton” in 1824 after DeWitt Clinton, who worked on the Erie Canal.
Today, Clinton Township is populated due to its proximity to Detroit and contains two communities, Broad Acres and Cady. Clinton Township is home to many parks that feature the Clinton River.
