Saginaw was settled by French missionaries and traders throughout the 17th century. In 1816, Louis Campau made a trading post in the area that became Fort Saginaw. Saginaw’s population increased as it entered the lumber industry and even had a port for Great Lakes ships. 

Today, Saginaw is known for its exciting downtown, which has the Dow Event Center and Temple Theatre. Other fun locations include the Saginaw Art Museum, the Andersen Enrichment Center and Rose Gardens, and the only authentic Japanese tea house in Michigan.
